Vintage TA Discussion

Post by Flyin Mikey J on Sun Oct 20, 2013 8:11 am

First of all, the basics of the series.

The car list is based on the SCCA Trans Am Series at its peak season of 1970. The builds are tested for competition and parity, with limited tuning via many "Sport" components to emphasize driver skill over tuning skills, and the builds are not to be changed at any time.

This was to be a TORA TCR Series to be run at 8PM BST on Friday Nights, but have yet to receive any confirmation from staff. The cars came out too good, and I spent too much time building and rebuilding each of them for equalization, to just piss it off, so if this doesn't get run on TORA, it will be run at XPLR, hopefully on Thursday Nights at 9PM BST.

The race format is the standard Qualification Session, a 12 Minute Sprint Race, and a 30 Minute Feature Race with a mandatory pit stop.

It will be run as a five or six week series. Tracks should include Maple Valley Reverse, Sunset Club, Infineon NASCAR, Mugello Club, and Suzuka East, with possibles of Silverstone National or Laguna Seca.

I hope to see much Ax4x representation wherever this series gets run, especially if it is at XPLR, as that is the home base for much of the XPR team.

Got my base design done. Unsure of what to put in the gap; perhaps a stock car style #88 occupying most of the space with minor sponsors?

That reminds me... XPLR usually uses numberboxes, but SCCA Trans Am never did. So I better talk to Greg about series decals instead of boxes.

If it Thursday then I'm not able to run this. Shame I really enjoyed testing the cars. Would have been a great Series. Crying or Very sad

Blame TORA and their bias towards FWD racing.

A new day brings a new look at things. It seems that Trans Am may well get the proper TORA Friday 8P BST timeslot after GT Revival is finished.

I did "Numberballs" as they didn't use numberboxes back then. Here is the correct placement of numbers/etc...

We ARE GO!!!

Fridays at 8PM BST, on TORA! The section is now open for discussion, the build rules and car list is up. All that is left is the scheduling.

One thing bothers me... the numbers are low so far. I know its still a week off, but I am getting nervous about both this and LeMons.

I think the problem is, that a lot of people don't realise how good this could be unless it's shoved in their face. People assume 'Oh, old cars from yesteryear...boring'. I don't think I'd be interested in LeMons if it wasn't for New Years Eve 2012. You can bet all your money that if it was officially TORA sanctioned, there'd be a lot of people sign up. With that being said, there has been declining numbers for the GT Revival...although I don't think Simon is arsed about it anymore.

Tell me about the dwindling GT Revival... I'm looking at a podium this week, and have yet to turn a lap at Silverstone in my NSX.

Anyone already signed up need a team mate? My Friday nights are free now so I can finally do some of the TCR events but don't really fancy being a privateer.

Kilroy can't do the V8 Supercars anymore, so if you fancy that, you can replace him and be on a team with me and Chaddy. Smile

Yes I do need a teammate. I signed up in the 71 Mustang but may change just for livery's sake as I came up with nice paints for the 70 Mustang and the Pontiac Trans Am.

Paul, I changed my entry, and signed you up with me. We'll run the 1970 Mustang under the team name "Allied Forces Factory Team".

I'll send you the livery and some tunes most likely before work on Monday.

Sorry Bandit but it's on a bit late for me, and I'm no good in them so I don't really enjoy racing them. Embarassed

Reading the lap time thread this morning made me smile. It seems everyone is enjoying the cars. So, while I may be a bit offpace, I came up with a build that people are having fun with. As race coordinator, that is what is most important.

Also, it looks a bit less like an Ax4x Club series as we've got entries from the BGs and ATP guys. I guess I better step up my game for this one. I've always enjoyed Laguna Seca, but am rarely quick there for some reason.

We'll see how the Challenger's Laguna Seca laptimes stack up with the BG Camaros and Wheelwash's Trans Am.

I think me and Bandit have a good shot at causing an upset, providing we both have good attendance, I'm hoping for a top 3 finish in the Teams Championship!

I set up the team Championship to score just the top car for each team. That should help keep things close, as even a privateer has a shot at it.
