LeMons race hosted by Ax4x Empty LeMons race hosted by Ax4x

Post by Flyin Mikey J Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:22 am

After much discussion in the Community Team TEC event about a possible LeMons TEC race, only to get shot down by the powers that be, I am considering running this race as an Allied Forces team effort.

Basics:
All cars that cost 8000Cr from the dealership would be eligible
All cars run in C Class at 400PI
Two Classes: Class 1: Over 3200 Lbs in weight. Class 2: Under 200 HP.

Track: TBA
Race Duration: TBA
Stint Length: TBA

After helping BG Wingnut host the CT TEC, I think if we all pitch in, this can be done rather successfully. What do you guys think?

If this is anything like the Chump Car race it should be a lot of fun. Very Happy

Cool to see revived interest in this one. Chump Car was a blast... 100 laps of Road Atlanta Club in some real crapcars. This would take the concept a step further.

My first thoughts are 4x 60 minute stints. Four hours isn't very long by TEC standards, but stinting and teamwork would still come into play. And 60 minutes is still a reasonable stint for most everyone.

In real life, the LeMons races pay $1,000.00 to win, and is paid in change.

My thought is giving away a Gold Plated Pinto with every upgrade on it to the overall winner.

Does that gold plated Pinto come with the explosive gas tank option? I think the Ford parts code was, UBDED1 - Rear Impact Explosive Gas Tank $257.45

Stock aero, except for cars with "remove wing" option, in which case remove is mandatory. Makes them look more like the base model.

After the TEC Silverstone event today, I really want to make this happen... and successful.

I want to test out bunches of 8000 Cr cars, at 400 PI, at Infineon, Laguna Seca, Maple Valley and Road Atlanta, to try and find a track where grip and speed balance out best.

I know the concept of "slow" cars will put off some people... so what? I don't care if we even have one full lobby. As long as every participant has fun, that is all that matters.

There's slow, then there's F100 slow. F100 is way too slow to be enjoyable. But anything that's D class & above should be pretty fun.

Just car cost, as with "affinity" every upgrade allowed can be "free of charge".

Remember: no "conversions" (i.e. engine swaps, aspiration or drivetrain conversions)

F100 was way too slow, so that part has been scrapped.

Two classes, BOTH at C400. Overweight (over 3300 pounds) and Underpowered (under 200 HP)

This should give a wide mix of cars competing for class wins in each class, and a bizarre mix going for the overall win. Plus, I am hoping we get a few "just for kicks" entries in stuff like the Vandura. To help on that end, I may allow a couple cars that (I feel) may be "overpriced" in the FM4 dealerships. For example, a Ford Country Squire or old VW Beetle may go for 10,000 if fully restored, but in used condition, they can be found regularly for $500.

The actual LeMons rulebook is a great read...
http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/pricesandrules.aspx

We may need to borrow from them where applicable (just change enough wording as to not get sued for plagiarism) Here are some examples:

LeMons Rulebook wrote:1.3: Refunds and Compensation for Loss: There are none. Forget it. It ain't gonna happen. You get zip. Squat. Nada. Can't get your act together? Tough nuts. T-boned on Lap One? Listen to the crickets. Abducted by space aliens? Boo-hoo, L. Ron. Jay ran you over in his RV? Then you shouldn't have been...wait a minute...okay, that actually might be our fault.
1.4: Claiming Race: At the end of the competition, the Organizers--and nobody else, you lazy, better-car-wantin' bastids--may elect to purchase any vehicle from its owner(s) for $500. In 80 races and counting, we've claimed cars precisely twice. Don't piss us off so much that we raise that to three.
1.5: Winners and Prizes: Classes are assigned (aka, pulled from our butts) during tech inspection based on the judges' best guesses; post-assignment whining gets you kicked into the next faster Class. Class winners are paid in nickels: Class A (for cars with a prayer of winning) soaks up $400; Class B (for cars with a prayer of finishing) walks off with $500; Class C (for cars with no prayer of finishing) drags away $600. Winner of the Index of Effluency--as determined by a super-secret equation including vehicle age, general hooptieness, reliability of country of origin, unlikelihood of success, and the Organizers' whim--receives $601, plus a free entry in the team's next race. 1.6: Your Car May Be Destroyed at Any Time: This is racing. Accidents and other unfortunate boo-boos happen. We don't crush stuff anymore, but that was never the point; the point was, you should never bring a car to the track if you aren't ready to lose it there.
1.7: Right of Publicity: You and your brilliant, pithy utterances may be photographed, recorded, or otherwise reproduced and re-used whenever and wherever the heck the Organizers like (including but not limited to television, internet, magazines, radio, biblical apocrypha, CinemaScope epics, and cave paintings). You won't get a penny unless somebody sees it and buys you a coffee. If you're not comfortable with that, wear a Mexican wrestler mask and/or stay home.

Knowing that we have three whole months until Nurb 24, I think we should get this up and running within the next six-seven weeks.

Running a fun enduro halfway between Silverstone and Nordschlieffe... Smile

No. I am thinking the "24 Hours of LeMons."

Four one hour stints, with 20 minute breaks in between. So in real time it should take 5 hours. I've been warned that long stints/24 hours would be too much in "slow" cars.

I did some testing, and I think that the Overweight cars need a weight break. Might be 3000 pounds, maybe 3100... either way 3300 is too portly. And found out that the MR-S is a bit too quick, so it may get the axe for that reason.

And rather than actual car caps, I am thinking of a "Don't turn this into a Spec Race" rule stating that if a car is chosen by 20% of the entrants, that car will be banned. This would force people not to pick the obvious 'popular' car.
